Search Specific Time Frames With Browser Keywords
In a previous post, I discussed how useful web browser keywords can be for setting up customized search engines that can be evoked through your browser’s address bar. Now, a clever poster at Lifehacker’s forums has suggested an additional function that can improve the quality of your Google searches.
I love finding new ways for getting more out of my Google searches, so being able to combine the utility of browser keywords with enhanced search functionality makes this inquisitive geek a very happy user.
Often, when running a query, it is beneficial to narrow the scope of your results to very recent or very old results. Normally, this can be accomplished by selecting a time range on the left sidebar of a Google search results page. If this is something you often do and you’d like to streamline your workflow, try setting up one of the keyword searches below.
To search for pages that have been updated in the past month, use this URL for your custom search engine:
https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&tbo=1&tbs=qdr:m&q=%s
To extend your search back to pages updated in the past two years, use this URL, instead:
https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&tbo=2&tbs=qdr:y&q=%s
Best yet, you can customize these URLs to fit whatever criteria you desire. For example, modify the tbo= numerical values and the qdr:m and qdr:y values to change the number of months and years in your specified time range, respectively.
